Something a little different

Painting on tiles.

Those of you following this blog probably know that I love riding horses, So when my friend wanted me to paint horses on to tile for her new home I couldn't refuse.

She had beautiful stone tile.

I wanted the beauty of the original stone to show through so I thought that doing simple line work would be the best choice.

the paint was tricky at first... according to youtube I needed a primer and then a paint... but that was difficult to find, in the end I got a primer/paint in a spray can.

I did a test tile and used  a wet rag and steel wool to make sure that the paint would stay on the tile... luckily it did. painting on tile can be tricky I think it helped that this was stone rather than ceramic.

I sprayed a bit of the primer/paint on a paper plate (never put spray paint on plastic, it eats through and you end up with Jackson Pollack graffiti on the floor. Not that I would know from experience... of course not) and used a brush to paint it on the tiles.

over all I am happy with how they turned out, I hope my friend likes them!

I have gotten a lot of good feedback about these tiles and I am working on an etsy shop with similar items, if you would like something like this please contact me, kimberlistudio@gmail.com

Review

I know I am a bit late. for all this but I have been thinking  about 2013 and my goals to for 2014.

Some exciting things happened last year.  I finished illustrating
my first children's book.

I got a all "deep" and starving artisty and wondered if my style was actually "me" and experimented with some different styles.

It was fun to do something slightly different I learned allot from it. Perhaps most importantly I learned that my style is my style. I draw the way I do because its me and how I think and what makes me happy.
I started Chris Oatleys magic box course and it has improved my art a ton. I was amazed at how much I learned in the first lesson! And if any one is thinking of taking this course do.

And my favorite illustration of the year was  this wise old monster.

So now looking forwards I have some goals that I hope will improve my are and expand my career this next year.

1.  Enter Spectrum (I will keep entering until they let me in by golly!)

2. Do 30 paintings from life in real paint (I am or may not show these to any one)

3. Send Post cards out every 2 months to Art Directors and Art Reps (no more slacking on the business side of illustration)

4. I also want to finish the graphic novel that I started.

5. Become a Jedi (I know I am a little old to start training.)

Well those are my goals, I will keep you all updated, I hope your 2013 was great and I wish you an even better 2014!
